James McHenry (November 16, 1753 – May 3, 1816) was a Scotch-Irish American military surgeon, statesman, and a Founding Father of the United States. McHenry was a signer of the United States Constitution from Maryland, initiated the recommendation for Congress to form the Navy, and was the eponym of Fort McHenry. John Winchester was born in Hartford, Connecticut, ca. 1768, and served as a drummer in the United States Army's 2nd Regiment of Arrtillery and Engineers in the late 18th century. He and his wife Nancy lived in Groton, Connecticut, and had at least four sons: John, William, Alden, and Elias.
